What is a Mechanical Keyboard? It is a keyboard which is built using individual key switches, located under each individual key cap. These mechanical switches are highly durable and provide unique tactile and audible feedback which will vary based on the specific manufacturer and model of key switch. These mechanical switchs allow you to feel, and typically hear, when a key has been pressed, making you aware whether or not the key has been pressed and registered. Mechanically speaking, this type of keyboard is believed to provide the fastest and most efficient typing experience, since the switches tend to "pop" as opposed to mearly compress as is typical with most currently available keyboards.
